Client Accountant, Client Services (Madeira)

Principle Responsibilities

  • Ensuring accounting records are completed, accurate and compliant with applicable accounting and tax standards.
  • Calculate and prepare VAT declarations on monthly and quarterly basis, as applicable.
  • Prepare and submit VAT Recapitulative Statements for intra-EU transactions, where applicable.
  • Calculate and prepare withholding tax declarations monthly, calculate and declare corporation tax instalments during the year.
  • Prepare and submit the year-end tax file IES.
  • Prepare cash flow files when applicable.
  • Prepare and submit the COPE (cash movements outside Portugal) file and Instrat file (intra-EU transaction), where applicable.
  • Prepare communication of inventories on an annual basis, communicating SAFT invoice files to the tax authorities monthly.
  • Calculate and prepare the declaration of tax benefits annually.
  • Responsible for compiling, preparing and maintaining the annual tax folder, including required forms and supporting documentation. Where applicable, prepare and maintain the Transfer Pricing documentation.
  • Act as the responsible accountant for the government support applications, including development, submission and monitoring.
  • Meet with clients quarterly to present the accounts per period and make the necessary adjustments.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures on the above responsibilities.
  • Complete ad-hoc projects, as required.

  • Ensure accurate maintenance of records; and 
  • Achievement of client deadlines and KPI’s.

Professional Qualifications and Minimum Relevant Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in accounting and tax reporting;
  • Professional accountant qualification recognised in Portugal such as:
  • Contabilista Certificado (CC)
  • Registration with the Ordem dos Contabilistas Certificados (OCC)

IT Skills

  • Advanced Excel skills;
  • Experience with Portuguese tax/accounting software;
  • General competency in Microsoft Office e.g. Word, Excel, and Outlook; and 
  • Experience of report writing.
