Fairway Super Series is back....and bigger than before!

19 July 2021

Jersey Cricket is delighted to announce that the Fairway Super Series will once again be the year-end climax to the local junior cricket season taking place in September. It aims to add another tier to the player pathway in order to provide an extra taste of competitive cricket for the brightest young players on the island.

This year will see the introduction of a second competition. It means over 80 players across U14 and U16 age groups, including members of the women’s national team, will be invited to enter the player draft. Players will be invited based on performances in junior and senior club cricket throughout the 2021 season. Once drafted into their 4 teams the players will then go head to head across two days of hard fought, fast paced and colourful T20 cricket.

The four teams (Beresford Street Kitchen Bandits, Mind Jersey Mavericks, Every Child Eagles and Lord Taverners Lightning) are all affiliated to local charities with the hope of raising awareness and money for their cause. Players from each team will learn about the efforts made by the charities working within the local community. Mind Jersey are new to the tournament for 2021 and we are looking forward to using their expertise to engage the young players in mental health awareness.

To ensure that the players get the most out of their experience, Jersey’s men’s national team cricketers will once again take up the role of player mentors for the U14 competition. In the older U16 age group series, qualified coaches will be appointed and will be on hand to provide coaching advice and tips for players to prepare them for highly competitive fixtures.

Cricket Performance & Development Manager, Lee Meloy, said ‘we are really excited about the opportunity to continue to provide a modern cricket experience for our most promising juniors mirroring the T20 franchise cricket we see on TV. With full coloured kits and a draft event this annual tournament will give junior club cricketers something to aim for throughout the regular season’.

‘Fairway have continued their support of local junior cricket on the island and we are thankful for their assistance in being able to provide a superb cricket experience for all involved. We are also looking forward to working closely with the local charities’.

Matt Ebbrell, Chief Operating Officer for Fairway Group commented, “Fairway Group is focused on making a difference to our clients, our colleagues and our community and we believe there is no better way to demonstrate that than through education and sport. This year we are delighted to be bringing back the Fairway Superseries even bigger and better to help raise money for four amazing charities and to help more young people on their cricket pathway.”
