Deva Triathlon in Chester has finally arrived having been a date in the diary set early in the year. The build up to the weekend was busy as ever with the children off for half term with lots of activities.
The morning before I left Jersey both Harvey and Max took part in the Fairway Group sponsored tennis tournament at the Tennis Hub St Clement. Both really enjoyed the event and Max made it to the U8 and U9 finals, coming runner up in both. He was awarded sportsman trophy of the tournament which was lovely for him. Max then went on to do the kids triathlon at St Catherine's run by the Jersey tri club, another great event.
Three of the Island Games ladies Phillipa Worth, Katie Silva and Mel Messervy all travelled by boat to the event. After a delayed flight it was good to catch up with them all and be surrounded by 3 inspirational ladies. Such focus and dedication to their training, continuing to master the skill of fitting it all in being busy mothers. If we as leaders can aim to bring those skills to the Fairway team, inspire others to be the best they can be, then we will be making a difference.
It was a beautiful morning in Chester, we all made to to transition together even though we had different age group start times. We then headed down to the River Dee which was daunting for me not being my strongest discipline. The aim was to stay on the outside going upstream and the middle downstream. All of that went out of the window with a frantic start, lots of head ducking and pulling I tried to stay focused and stay on others feet in a attempt to draft.
It was a pleasure to get onto the bike, with a great course it was good to battle with another girl (Heather780) which kept me strong and was delighted to get a PB of 1hr.11. Having undone my helmet too soon in transition, losing precious time I was made to go back to redo it!!
Disappointing run from me but pleased to finish and even more delighted to have come 18th in my age category. As this is one of the first qualifying races for Rotterdam it was filled with the most talented triathletes in the country. So proud of the inspiration ladies from Jersey who were incredible. Mel 1st in her category, Katie 4th both qualifying for the worlds in Rotterdam and Philippa 10th in our category . Well done Team Jersey awesome performance!
Me, Katie, Mel and Phillipa - the serious look!
